  • re: shooting yourself in the foot, you’re being presumptuous. i am personally using this as an intermediary computer until the next gen of MacPros is released in the next few months, and until then, being able to edit 2 streams of 720P DVCPRO HD is all i need.

  • well that sounds reassuring, thanks

  • again with the mixed feedback!

again, i have a new 15″ MBP *WITHOUT* an eSata port. i only have FW800 to work with. i would rather not work with media on the internal system drive as it’s pretty well established that that will over time run your drive into the ground, but as i am working with multi-stream 720P HD i’m wondering what my options are.

i’m so extremely confused by the bandwidth specs of these interfaces. FW800 theoretically supports 800Mbps. 1 stream of DVCPRO HD is about 40 to 50 Mbps @ 24P. assuming this is accurate (i have referenced multiple documents) how is the bandwidth not there?

obviously i am missing something as FW400 i would think should theoretically support 2 streams of 40 to 50Mbps data. this makes me think the limiting factor is the SATA drive speed, which you would think would be a non-issue if you’re running a RAID.

that all said, now why is it that a FW800 RAID will not be fast enough to support 2 streams of DVCPRO HD?

All the media is online. With the nature of the project, everything was digitized at full-res, and there’s a lot of unnecessary footage taking up space. I’m simply trying to back up my project for storage without it having to take up however many dozen gigabytes the full project takes up.

I know a properly media managed version of the project should take up a third of the space the full one does, but for whatever reason FCP HD thinks everything is necessary, and the suposed media managed version takes up the identical space to the original.

I have tried checking and unchecking all the different options in the media manager (include full master-clip, handles, etc.) to no avail. This happens all the time under very simple setups on which makes it all the more perplexing.

    thanks,

Thanks for the response, I had read and heard similar things prior to making the post. If someone HAS particularly experienced this, however, please get in touch as this would help me out a great deal. I appreciate it

    cheers,
