I am and have been using vegas 10, I only downloaded the trial version of 11 to test it, in hopes that perhaps my current version was messed up. It performed the same or slower so I have just continued to use 10 since I am not going to buy 11 with it showing any enhanced performance.
My current file I am rendering has 3 video tracks and 1 audio track – cookie cutter and contrast effects. It takes me between 3 and 5 minutes to render 10 seconds of 1080 or 720 HD any file format.

Thanks for the input!
I actually downloaded sony vegas pro 64 bit trial to see if it made any difference and it took slightly longer to render the same clips haha…
The footage I am rendering from is not stored on my computer, it is in an external hardrive (is this similar to what you mean?) but I have tried both ways – having the original footage in an external as well as on my PC
I now tested the customizing CPU or GPU acceleration, I didnt see a noticeable difference between the two options.
I also tested some rendering with Sony AVC mp4 and they took about 25% longer to render than the same clip in wmv
The thing that gets me is I read people say they have 3,4,6 ram, slower processor, etc. (and undoubtedly do not have 98% of their computers ram available) and they are rendering 1080HD video much faster than me. I just do not get it.

Thanks for the advice,
I went ahead and did that, unfortunately it didnt make any difference with rendering times! 🙁
I wouldnt be concerned except that I know others who have less powerful computer systems are able to render similar videos way faster than I am; it doesnt make sense to me.

Any idea why my rendering speeds would increased so much for no apparent reason?? It almost seems like its increasing more each day… and I unistalled my other programs to see if the slow down..
On my old computer (4gs of ram) rendering took FOREVER – 20 minutes for 1 minute of 480SD wmv. 45 minutes for 720hd dont even try 1080… frankly that seemed screwed up I had lots of free space and a good computer (compared to what others were using and rendering very fast)
My new computer is a vast improvement, and it should be considering the system (see original post)but it does not seem right considering the sudden slow down in rendering speeds
I keep rendering the same 1 minute 1track no effect 1280×720 file to test it. Sometimes it will do it in 1.5 minutes, sometimes it takes close to 3 minutes… Originally it took about 1 minute before it seemed to go whacko.
If I render in windows movie maker (both files being rendered are AVCHD rendering to WMV.) windows movie maker will render the exact same file in 1080HD in 30-40 seconds, and an SD version in 15-20…
Is my vegas just bad maybe?? (though on my old computer I used both a downloaded trail version AND a purchased CD – which I am using now)
Is there some settings I am missing? Can I dedicate ram just to vegas (though I have 1.72 of 1.8TB free… )

I am using Sony Vegas 10 Movie Studio HD Platinum
Last night I rendered a 7 minute 1280×720 video with 1 video track, 2 audio tracks, and 2 effects (sharpen and brightness/contrast)it had about 45 splits in it. no transitions / fades / changes in opacity, etc.
It took approx 35 minutes to finish.
Today I tested 1 minute of 1280×720 HD video: 1 minute video and audio track
settings for all videos to render at “best” and rendered at “sharpest” and reduced bit rate from 6 to 3
First try – No effects – 1:25 to render
Second try – 1 effect (sharpen) 1:42 to render
Third try – 2 effects (sharpen and contrast) 1:48 to render)

Oh I just realized,
during my first renderings I encounters an error – system low on memory or something of the sorts – and I looked up to fix it by changing dynamic ram to 0 – it was at 800 or 900.
Does dynamic ram affect rendering speed?
I cant understand how I went from rendering a 1 minute 1280×720 HD 1 track video in about 1min 1min15seconds to it taking 2-3 minutes only hours later…

November 16, 2010 at 2:38 am in reply to: Is there settings that can increase redering speed?I did…
The flip camera shoots in 1280×720 HD and at least 30 fps but I think mine is 60 fps, and I rendered this 1280×720 HD WMV in windows movie maker, and the same settings in vegas and vegas takes 5-6-7- times longer to render.
I tried reinstalling, did nothing.
Thanks for all your help everyone!
I think the best solution for me is to just ditch this handy cam though. A 640×480 10 minute clip shouldn’t take 4-5 hours to render, and the times it takes to render HD are outrageous so no point in having an extravagant HD camcorder then, its ridiculous… lol

November 15, 2010 at 4:20 am in reply to: Is there settings that can increase redering speed?Yeah opacity are all at 100%
I did a test just for the heck of it, and rendered a small 10 second piece with 100% opacity, and then rendered the same piece with 95% opacity, there was really no difference in rendering time. Both took about 2 minutes 30 seconds to render a 640×480 good quality 1.5 bit clip with 1 audio and 1 video track.
Im going to try reinstalling vegas, if that doesnt do anything Im just going to have to put some serious consideration into just selling this camcorder and take a huge loss so that I dont take a complete loss with it, since I cant utilize it in any reasonable manner… Much rather just have one that records in a format that can be imported into windows movie maker, that program rendered videos in 1/10 the time vegas did for the same clip (using my cheap flip camera)

November 14, 2010 at 5:43 am in reply to: Is there settings that can increase redering speed?Ive already tried all different format types – and I need to use wmv anyways, just trust me on this. It doesnt matter what format I use, it gives me ridiculous rendering times no matter what its not just wmv.
Lets just say then, I wanna render in mp4 (I have tried) – still takes me 30-40 minutes to render 1 minute 720HD clip… 5 minutes elsewhere.
Problem is, I cant render handycam files in moviemaker! 🙁
I dont think it has anything to do with my processor. I DID think it was my computer at first, but as I said movie maker renders 1 minute HD clip in 5 minutes – same clip in vegas 30-40 minutes. and especially when I read other peoples posts say they render in a reasonable times (compared to mine) with weaker comps than mine…
To me its just looking like their is no solution this and ill just be getting rid of this handycam since I cant actually render HD videos I shoot with it. Unless of course by some miracle someone knows what might be wrong.

November 13, 2010 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Is there settings that can increase redering speed?I have come to the conclusion that there MUST be either something wrong with my vegas settings, which I have no clue – Ive tried rendering in all the different wmv formats with different qualities and different bit and all are the same speed
However, if I take the same video and render it in Windows Movie Maker it renders in a minute, vs 6-7 minutes in vegas…!!!
Unfortunately, I only was able to test this using a video from a flip camera.
I cannot render my videos directly from my handycam since windows movie maker doesnt accept the original file type they are recorded in!!
converting will do no good, Ive tried this before – loose quality – takes just as long..
At least now I KNOW it is Vegas, and NOT my computer… my computer says it has just about half of its space free (I have no programs other than vegas though, so It should probably be 90% free… hmmm)
So really, any suggestions, if not, any one know of inexpensive programs that accept mt2s files that render 5x faster than vegas like the windows movie maker does… ???
