  • Thanks, guys. Taking a different tack. If I ever need to do 3D motion tracking in future I’ll probably spring for NUKE.

    Ah, I see. So I guess I can’t control the AA filter that’s used on images more generally? I’m doing a UI mockup with tiny icons, and the AE AA filter is making them blurrier than they need to be. I’d like to use the raw pixel data if possible.

    You could do this by creating the slideshow using a folder full of stand-in images with serial names:

    project.aep
    images/
    01.jpg
    02.jpg
    03.jpg

    You can save an Effect preset with an expression that does your transition based on the in-point and out-point of each slide, so then all you have to do is add the numbered images to a comp and line up the timing.

    When you’re friend has her photos ready, all he/she has to do is just rename her files with the same serial numbers (you can use Bridge to do this in bulk), and then replace the stand-in files in the images folder, render, and done!

    Fantastic, thanks for the info. I’m new to AE, so I’m just trying to educate myself about these things. Not that I need it to change, I just need mental models to help me make sense of this new world.

    Thanks guys!

    Huh. Weird.

    Can you (or anyone) explain why it works this way? Not that it’s a big deal to do it the way you suggest, but I feel like there’s some Law Of The AE Universe that I’m not understanding.

  • Ahhhh that would have been it, since I was indeed scrubbing audio. Assuming it’s fixed then. Fantastic! Thanks!

    Here’s the gist. AFAIK only possible with AE CC 2014.2 or later.

    R = thisLayer.sourceRectAtTime(time);
    T = R.top;
    L = R.left;
    W = R.width;
    H = R.height;
    [L+W/2,T+H/2]

  • You mean you can’t use your mind powers to download my computer specs?

    (facepalm)

    I was having the problem in AE 2014.0. Just updated to 2014.2, so we’ll see if that helps (haven’t tried yet).
