I don’t have any answers…but my first step is usually to take the exact error message, put it in quotes and Google it…often, if it is a somewhat common problem, you may find others who have had the same problem and then often find solutions as well.
I’m assuming that the error message actually has some substance instead of something that just says “Error Message”…as in, if it popped up and said “Error rendering selection due to problem 2345xx” or whatever…then take that exact message, put it in quotes (that is important) and Google it.
Just an idea…

Luke,
I haven’t done a ton with music libraries, but I have found some great music (no FX) at Bluefuse. (bluefusemusic.com)
I also never purchased anything from them…don’t really know their prices, but check them out if you want.

Michael,
If you only knew how helpful your post just was for me…
It pretty much answered all the questions I was asking in my original post. If you read the entire thread, you would know how much irrelevant and completely inaccurate information was passed my way.
All I really wanted to know was what the hell is up with the Core 2 Extreme, and why can’t I find it anymore.
Next time, I’ll just ask you. 🙂
Thanks so much,
PS – I am going to splash the extra $400 and get the 3.06 (upgraded from the 2.8 @ mac.com…it seems to be the wisest choice for me at this time.

Thanks everyone for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
I had read most of the articles that you all pointed me to, but had not seen some of them, so, thanks.
I think I pretty much understand now, but I still just kind of wonder why the “Extreme” line is no longer something that Apple does. As in, they had the Extreme for a year or so, but now that the 2.8 Duo and 3.06 Duo are out, are they going to come out with another Extreme version of the 3.06? Or is the next iMAC generation (3.2?) going to be a 3.2ghz Core 2 Extreme?
I was hoping that I would find a chart comparing the Core 2 Duo and the Core 2 Extreme, both 2.8ghz…but the only chart was comparing the 2.8ghz Extreme with the 2.4ghz Duo (back when it first came out). Obviously the 2.8 beat the 2.4.
I only ask because if they are not really doing the Extreme any more, is there a reason why they’re not doing it? As in, maybe it was a flop when it came out, and that’s why it never re-appeared.
Just a thought. Either way, I think I’ll get it. 🙂
Thanks everyone.

I would like to think that I’m not being over-dramatic. I mean, if you were on the verge of tossing $2000 at a new MAC, and one of the specs on your new machine was something that you’d never even heard of, you’d be cautious too. 🙂
And just the fact that it’s labeled “Extreme” makes me think it’s geared for gaming or something that I don’t want.
I am simply trying to NOT end up with a machine that will surprise me in a bad way. And it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find out what this particular MAC has to offer, or lacks, in that regard.
I am just hoping that someone out there actually knows what the “Core 2 Extreme” difference is compared to the “Core 2 Duo”
Cheers,
Adam

Zane, I just posted this responding to another guy’s comment, but wanted to make sure you got it too…
Intel does indeed make a “Core 2 Extreme” processor (it’s part of the Core 2 processor line), you can see that here:
https://www.intel.com/products/desktop/processors/index.htm?iid=processors_body+dt_coreAnd I googled — imac “core 2 extreme” — and pulled up 8 sellers who are selling the same 2.8ghz, 24″, Core 2 Extreme iMAC. Sellers are B&H, Pro Audio Solutions, PC Connection, etc, companies who surely aren’t making the same “typo”. And they all cost around $2300 from those sellers, so they must be new, which means Apple must still be making them??? Or are they leftovers from some failed product line back in 2006?
I just can’t figure out why nobody knows what Core 2 Extreme is…?

Thanks for the insight…
But I’m still so confused.

Zane,
Thanks for the reply. The “deal” I was speaking of is actually here:
https://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wa/RSLID?sf=wHF2F2PHCCCX72KDY&nclm=CertifiedMac&mco=MTE3NjYIt’s a refurbished iMAC from mac.com
From my research, all I could really find is that when Apple put out the 2.4ghz iMAC (Core 2 Duo) back in 2006, shortly after, they put out the 2.8ghz iMAC Core 2 ‘Extreme’. And I haven’t really seen it since then. I found articles from ’06 when it first came out comparing the Duo with the Extreme, but now I can’t find the Extreme anywhere.
So I guess this refurbished iMAC is one of those from ’06 when they first starting putting out 2.8ghz iMACs. Does that sound right?
If so, seems like a good idea to spend an extra $250 for the tried and tested “Duo”, right? So confusing…

Richard,
I don’t understand…
I was just asking what processor you have in the iMAC you mentioned with the 4GB RAM.
2.4ghz, 2.8ghz, 3.06ghz?
just curious.
mainly wondering if a new 3.06ghz iMAC w/ 4GB RAM could handle Motion and heavy rendering/coding as well as, say, a Quad-core 2.4ghz Mac Pro. -
Glenn,
Thanks…I have considered those same things for a while now and still can’t really decide.
1. I don’t have the extra $1500 to spend
2. I have only been doing video/editing for a year now, and I think it might be wise to NOT go out and buy the absolute best of the best while I’m still learning…you know?Although it sure would be nice to have 8 processors flying me to outer space every day…ahhhh.
Thanks again…
