I’m having the exact same issue as described above.

    Has anyone found a solution?

    Thanks for your response.

Out of curiosity, I wonder how Windows users combine audio and video tracks efficiently, and without recompression? (So far, I’ve only found QT Pro + Final Cut to be the fastest way of doing this.)

  • Just posted this in the Premiere section:

    Sorry for the double post!

  • Thanks guys, that worked well!

Years later, now that I’ve switched to Premiere Pro, I have a similar query:

Is it possible to do something similar in Premiere? In Final Cut, when you drop the source files in your sequence, it prompts to conform your sequence to the source files. You can then export to “Current Settings” without re compression.

I’m having trouble finding a similar workflow in Premiere. It seems it always wants to re compress my clips, even if my timeline is identical (Prores source to identical output.)

I suppose I could use QT Pro for this, but this seems like a pretty simple task, and I’m sure it must be possible.

    Thanks,
    Adam

  • Hey Pier,

Unfortunately all of the helpful advice I received from both Jean-Christophe and the OWC staff didn’t solve the problem and I had to reformat. I still do not know what caused it.

Are you having problems with the same hardware?

    Hope you figure it out.

    Cheers,
    Adam

Ugh, let’s hope not. I’ve sent an email off to the broadcaster, hopefully they come back with good news.

I’m hoping there may be an option to submit in NTSC widescreen (A.K.A. 720 x 480 with 1.21 pixel aspect ratio, rather than 0.9)

    Thanks guys,

Exporting the final timeline as a self contained, while using compressor to create the SD file sounds like it would work great.

I’m waiting to hear back from the broadcaster. Unfortunately, I think Shane may be right. (Full frame = sides chopped off) Hopefully there will be a way around this, as our videographer shot for 16×9, and everything has already been positioned as such.

  • Thanks Gary.

You’ve given me a few more questions:

    1. When choosing between HDMI and component output from my MXO2 Mini. I take from your response that component will give the most accurate reference?

    2. Are there any quality < $1000 HDTV’s that are known for (fairly) accurate reference when calibrated to colour bars? (I would have an easier time convincing the producer to purchase a 50″ HDTV for screening, than a 14″ CRT.)

I’m not sure our existing budget can afford a dedicated probe, so we may be stuck calibrating our monitor with the MXO2 + colour bars.

    Cheers,
    Adam

  • It’s native resolution is 2560 x 1440… I’ll keep that in mind. I’ll likely have to purchase another monitor unfortunately.

It’s kind of disappointing that the hardware calibration that came with the monitor wasn’t sufficient for broadcast use.

    Oh well.

    Cheers,
    Adam

  • Thanks Chris.

I do not have a Matrox / Blackmagic / AJA card and my NEC does not have HDMI in. Following your advice, I take it my cheapest bet would be to:

    – Purchase MXO2 Mini $450 + HDMI to DVI adapter.
    https://www.matrox.com/video/en/products/mac/mxo2_family/mxo2_mini/

    – Calibrate NECPA271W to colour bars with blue only switch.

    – If color bar calibration fails, purchase PVM14L5 CRT monitor ($550).

    – Calibrate PVM14L5 to color bars.

    Correct me if I’m wrong?

    Thanks again,
    Adam
