OK . . . I’m glad this thread came up, because I asked this question several times in the past.
What I’ve been doing is just great, attentitive work for my current clients, and because of this more clients have been coming through word of mouth. It’s been working great for me this way. I’ve also been scouring Mandy, DesignInMotion, etc. for people who I would like to work with and then I would just send them a reel, and this approach has been pretty sucessful as well.
Other than that, I’m still looking for that big, grand holy grail that attracts new clients. To be honest, I think it’s partly having the right approach, and also a big part being in the right place at the right time.

Great Thread. I’ll throw in my own two cents.
I own a small broadcast design company in NYC. We’ve been around for about two years, and believe me, the hardest thing is to find new clients. It’s like a puzzle . . . you have to figure out an approach that works best for you and provides results, and run with it. You’re not going to get many calls back or positive responses, so have patience!
I can’t stress enough how important it is to have clients with you from the get go, most likely people who you have worked with in the past. I have a few regular clients that allow me to live comfortably while always looking for more. Have loyalty to your regulars too . . . mine have been with me since the beginning, so I always bring my best to the table.
Also, if you can get an intern to handle the e-mails and auxillary work, do it! Besides being the lead designer here, I’m also the web site maintainer (which explains why it hasn’t been updated in a few months), the accountant, the salesperson, the DVD designer, and a couple of more hats. If you can find an intern to take some of this work off your hands, your better off for it.
All the best!

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for all your input! Currently, I’m using a home-built machine, but it’s about 2 yrs. old and getting a little long in the tooth. I checked out Boxx before, but they are a little too pricey. Let’s say there’s a $5000 limit on the amount of $$$ I can spend on a system . . . I was thinking about going through Cyberpower, but I am open to other options. I would build one myself, but I’m a little nervous to throw money that route, as I haven’t really kept up with the technology side.
Thanks!

Hey man, I think your work looks good!
Well, let me know what happens . . . I’ll try to share a sucess story with you if one comes my way. I noticed in your carreer section you have a posting for a commission-based sales rep . . . I tried that as well, but on sites such as Mandy and DesignInMotion. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any responses for it, but you might want to try posting there to see what happens.
All the best!

Thanks you for that comment! I just think that I haven’t learned the proper way of marketing what my small company can do . . . that’s why I think I need a rep or a producer to help me with that aspect where I show a weakness.
If you have any tips to share, I would gladly appreciate them . . .
