    Photoshop might be easier to understand the workflow. EXR requires another level of understanding of image processing, but it is the best.

    Looking at the camera specs:

    Recording Mode Recording Format Bit Rate

    MOV/MP4 UHD 3840x2160/59.94p 150 Mbps

    For Vegas, make sure you are recording in MP4 mode and not MOV. Other than that the recording codec is just AVCHD high profile with Linear PCM audio, which is what Sony calls XAVC. Sony records to MFX file format however, so you may need to try FFMPEG and re-wrap the video into the MXF container.

    Can you upload a start stop, or post the “media info”( its an application) on the file format?

    VP12 should be able to play the format back. You may need to edit the project via HD proxies, then render the final 4K project using the camera masters. System hardware levels makes a huge difference beyond HD resolutions.

    You can always try the trial of VP14 and see if it works better for you.

    You could convert your raw format to EXR. That format will hold all of your raw information, given your conversion software does not clip your info in the processing.

    You could also convert to Photoshop format, as vegas works well with Photoshop files very well.

    Can you post the Media Info details on your source files?

    The Proxy format is xdcam I think. So if your source media is recorded at say 12Mbs AVCHD with AC3 audio (MP3,) then your proxy files will be larger. Xdcam is 35-50Mbs with uncompressed audio.

    Proxying is really meant to work 4K material or really high bitrate formats, by creating a proxy file that is much smaller than the original.

    Converting your AVCHD to something like xdcam or cineform.avi intermediates will provide a smoother, more stable editing experience.

    Post the “Media Info”(its an application) on the video file. You may need to render a proxy file to something like xdcam-ex, Cineform.avi, or HDCAM-SR-lite. *** Important to render the proxy file frame for frame to the original for length and sync reasons. ***

    Put the original file in a subfolder, and get the project working pointing to the original in the subfolder.

    Put the proxy render in another subfolder “proxy.”

    Close the vegas project, and rename the original folder. Open the vegas project and point missing files to the proxy files.

    Edit away.

    When its time to render. Close the proxy project. rename the original folder back, and the rename the proxy folder.

    Open the Vegas project and point the missing files to the original file.

    Render the final project using the master file size and quality.

    .MXF is a file format / Container. What codec did you render to?

    YouTube supports converting XAVC, XDCAM, cineform, Prores, and Avid DNx series. Most of the brand name codecs are just custom variants of MP4, MPEG2, DV, MJPEG, and JPEG2000 codecs.

    Did you shoot under cheap LED lights? CRI matters, or you may need to put some minus green on your lights.

    Did you compensate for Computer RGB vs sRGB conversions that happens when you playback in “players” like Windows Media? If you already have a green cast going in your master footage, the contrast shift that happens in the sRGB to cRGB can saturate the green tones more. MP4 operates under sRGB levels. All your levels should be corrected for sRGB, so they expand correctly to the cRGB space in players like Youtube, small devices, and windows media player.

    Have you tried playback in VLC player?

  • I would use VLC player on another laptop or computer and verify the source media is clean, and you are not seeing pixel drop from your sensor.

    Another thought is your system (memory,memory controller, storage or GPU,) which could be erroring during render/playback. Vegas might be dropping pixels that come up errors and defaulting to not show them. The default background is black which is the color of your missings pixels. I would try changing the default background color to Pink and see if the “speckles” change color.

    There is so little technical information in the post about system specs, video source/type, effects in use, or project settings that most are probably just ignoring your post for that reason.

    Are you sure your source media, project settings, and output render settings are all the same?

    Is there any heavy color correction, or effects on the time line media, that the system has to calculate before sending frames to the encoder?

    Create a test project, where you encode your camera source to XAVC-intra, then run a test render on 1min or 10mins of footage. Then note the time difference and extrapolate for 1h30m.
