Would be nice to see turnkey hardware solutions too – like an Avid Adreneline – that’s 100% certified to work with a high-end FCP solution.
Of course, part of FCP’s draw is how open it is to a wide array of hardware. But it’d be nice to have a rock solid system that was certified from the ground up.

Not entirely sure about the DSR11, but when our DSR-1500 gets tapes stuck in it, you can unscrew the case and *gently* with rubber needlenose pliers lift the tape out of the tape path and get the thing out of there. It’s really not too hard. But chances are this will ruin whatever bits of info are on that particular part of the tape, but the rest should be ok for a once-through to get it salvaged off.
sounds like your tape is having tension problems – hence the noise,losing timecode, and not rewinding the whole way. could also be the DSR tension rollers are a bit wacky too. Whenever you have DV tapes that are moving from temperate extremes, or have been used in a camera that stops, records, stops, etc…. always let the tape sit in your edit bay for a couple hours to stabilize the temperature and humidity, and then FFing the tape to the end and rewinding it completely to re-tension.

More info: what kind of deck are you trying to use?
I know the Sony DVCAM decks come with a warning that plugging in the FW cable when the deck is already on can damage the iLink… basically frying the connection from what i gather

Somedays I feel like most things I want to do in FCP end up being jimmy-rigged 🙂 but maybe that’s half the fun?

If the mix is the exact mix on the “master timeline” a quick fix is to Export -> Aiff from the master, and bring that in for the two problematic timelines.
“general error” kinda sounds like a permission problem, or out of disk space?

FCP imports any “unknown” timecoded file as DF. But don’t let NDF and DF confuse you – they’re simply a way of counting and do not affect the audio in any way.

That program seems to have a huge potential! ….except you’d have to create a custom skin just for FCP (doesn’t seem to be any readymade ones that you could tweak) and from what I can tell it would take quite some time and patience which us working editors don’t have much to spare.
