I prefer using Compressor to make the mpeg files for DVDSP. Export to compressor straight from timeline, select Best or Fast encode for 60 minutes 16:9, should look really nice.

Load it firewire, FCP can automatically load it as 24fps media (w the 24fps 720 capture option). The tape must stripe 60frames, but the duplicate frames are flagged so FCP knows to skip them.

Well the sales rep at Promax gave me a good spiel on their box vs G-Speed….

Has anyone used the fibre G-Speed arrays? I’m really interested in them for our next studio…. we have the XSAN, but it’s too much work when things go awry. I’d rather have a dedicated array for HD work. I know AJA recommends them, and I know some Flame artists who swear by them for their Combustion workstations.

I’d copy/paste your timeline into a 29.97 timeline. FCP will remove frames for you and your OMF should be golden.

Our last feature took about 12 months to edit…

You can edit in 59, and give the audio guy a 29.97 quicktime to mix to. The rate is still equivalent. I’m fairly sure they can edit to tape on a D5 using 29.97 deck control – and it will correct accordingly. This is something they need to test out in advance so you don’t end up trying to lay back a :30 second mix for 7 hours at the last minutre.

Correct. It’s a full screen image, will look stretched vertically. You have to hit the anamorphic button in FCP to make it letterbox and look correct.
