And they have an HD-SDI plug in board for the Panasonics. Works great. 23.98, 24.0, etc…. the set looks nice with SD images too.

I may be wrong, I have the BKM-14L probe which only works with the BVM (as in Beta, not Pacaderm).

I think he has a PVM monitor. so the sony probe won’t work.

Captured. What’s funny is while FCP6 sometimes won’t even Matchframe to what it’s showing you in the timeline…. the same exact piece of media works fine in FCP 5.

there’s something in QT and FCP reading frame rates, I think, that’s at the heart of the issue. It’s affecting us because we’re loading 30fps material into 24fps DV files….and something freaks FCP6 out. i even tried batch conforming clips with cinema tools as per our earlier fix… no cigar. clip analysis revealed several frames that were 1.5 frames in duration (according to FCP), but long frame detection didn’t catch them, and even when batch conform got rid of that problem, the clips still were corrupt. Again, any of the clips in any of their forms work absolutely fine in FCP5.

I tried all sort of stuff until *4am* last night, came up with no answers that made me confident in 6, so moved the project back to 5. now it’s working like a charm and the clients are none the wiser.

it was a good learning experience 🙂

I’ll second that 5.1.4 is very stable. 6 has been testing my patience in the studio.

Ah. Interesting. Maybe that started the whole problem.

Good thing no one uses Premier Pro anymore! But I REALLY doubt they would still adhere to such an archaic and misinformed workflow…. I would hope.

If you’re talking about SCANNING, then yes, DPI matters on acquisition. Scanning art at 50dpi will yield garbage.

I think what confuses some people is that once you have a digital still, a tiff or psd or png, all that matters in your video apps is your pixel count. 720×486 pixels. You can save that as 50dpi or 1000dpi, but it will still be 720×486 pixels and will be indentical in FCP.

DPI has no meaning in video. At all. Whatsoever. The only time DPI matters is when you’re going to a physical medium.

That’s why there aren’t any DPI buttons or menus in After Effects, Final Cut, etc… 1920×1080 pixels is ALWAYS 1920×1080 pixels regardless of your DPI settings in Photoshop. I can’t say why PS has larger file sizes for different DPI, but a pixel is a pixel is a pixel.

I’ve always heard people bandy about that video = 72dpi. It’s like an old wives tale that got started by a vicious misconception.
