I have been having the same problem ever since I started using PPRO. At this point, there is no fix to it. However, remember to defrag your drives often.

Well, he could use Windows Movie Maker. It can capture and edit WMVs. However, I don’t know how to upres the footage after that.

Another alternative would be using the MPEG Pro plugin. Unfortunately, that will cost more than the external harddrive.

At this point, Premiere Pro does not support lo res captures. Considering the cost of external harddrives, may I suggest purchasing one?

I usually put everything for a project in its own folder. For example, if I am editing a concert, there will be a main folder called Concert and would contain sub-folders like captures, audio, titls, design, dvd etc…That way, when the project has to be deleted or moved, I just delete the main folder.
