Having also been driven mad by line twitter on SD DVD’s (don’t see it on tape) i found that the new versions of the MPEG 2 encoder BitVice virtually solved the problem. It’s a great encoder and Innobits (the Swedish company who make BitVice) are continually developing and improving their product. The problem is of course that the EX cameras are giving us too sharp an image!

Well, I’m 75 in March so there may not be much in it after all.
I too was film making with good old film up until the mid 1990’s when digital video became good enough for my taste. The change in the editing was terrifying, I too had never even turned on a computer and a good friend directed me to Media 100. The workflow seemed to be the closest to film editing that was available and although the learning curve was not easy for me the intuitive nature of Media 100 has remained the most valid reason to stay loyal. All the progress now being made by Boris has rewarded us and IMHO Media 100 is the best and most enjoyable system there is. Long may it be so.

I’m sorry I started this agitation for details! My only reason was that I’m planning a large scale update of the whole edit suite (new MacPro etc etc) probably my last ever as I’m very very old (probably the oldest active editor) and this new version just coincides so I want to incorporate it if possible. Sorry Floh, didn’t want to embarrass you.

I signed on for the webinar then forgot it as of course here in Europe we’re five hours ahead. Should those of us planning upgrades now wait until the end of this month?

So, Alister and Rafael, if one is intending to end up with SD DVD’s is there any point in shooting HD at all? I’ve been finding though that since I started shooting HD my down converted SD pictures are better. I either convert within Media 100 or, more often now, with the greatly improved BitVice. Although my material is interlaced the BitVice down convert must have the anti aliasing that Alister refers to because I now have very little trouble, used to though with previous down converts.

You don’t mention any file sizes so it’s difficult to comment but why not put the .Mov file on a drive with a decent capacity? I use small portable drives up to 1 TB capacity for moving files around. I guess that you want to post the DVD to someone? Then my suggestion won’t work unless you can FEDEX the drive?
