Couldn’t agree more concerning the praise of Media 100 and I endorse the comment querying why more pros don’t use it. The hiatus a few years back did so much damage allowing the power of Apple to bulldoze FCP right in there. As for Floh, well is he real? Having spoken to him from time to time I confirm he is but a Superman none the less.

Craig, on this subject is there any way in XDCAM Transfer that you can set the audio channels to ‘centre pan’ before importing? I’m importing into Media 100 and the only way I can center the pan is once the clip is on a timeline.

Why? Surely the Transfer app. brings it perfectly well into Media 100 and we can choose either Media 100 HD or the ProRes codecs?

Why oh why don’t people do what was originally envisaged by Sony and use the Sony S X S cards? Post after post complaining about lost media and it’s always from a non Sony card. OK, they’re expensive, so are the cameras but it’s all relative. Easy to download files on location, about ten minutes per 16 GB’s, surely that time is available every two or three hours depending on how many cards you have. You shouldn’t need too many and they will take countless record and deletes.

If you need to save card space shoot in HDV mode on the EX 1. Upscaled afterwards you get very good images, I’ve shot a couple of projects that way.

I do the same but in addition to just one PP set at 5600 Kelvin I prepare two or three other PP’s set at various K’s from 2900 to 4000 which can easily be accessed on the screen and which do for almost any indoor lighting. Having a manual setting on ‘A’ is good though if you have already seen the lights you are encountering.

Yes but Floh, don’t you have to use an encoding app. before going to Toast (it has to be version 10?). I thought that a variation of H264 in Compressor has to encode.

Your post is puzzling. This forum relates solely to the Sony XDCAM EX cameras (EX1, EX1R & EX3) and often include the larger XDCAM cameras recording to disk.
Sharpness is an extremely subjective matter and without tests on a chart is difficult to rate. What sort of apertures were you shooting at since these lenses give their best performance when fairly wide open, certainly at F. 5.6 or less if possible. Many cameras have a built in facility such as neutral density filters which can reduce the light coming in thereby ensuring wider apertures. Most cameras in this modern age give extremely sharp pictures when used correctly and I’m sure the one to which you refer is no exception. What are you viewing the footage on? Images vary greatly from one piece of kit to another.
