Ian, I read what you say but it really would be sensible and, I’m sure appreciated around the world, if there was a ‘Peter & Jane’ talk through for this application. It is such a basic requirement that we need to ingest footage shot on your wonderful cameras, and your software has to be our tool to do this and many of us are confused by the multiplicity of tasks that are available within the application. If you don’t have anything is there a Tutorial prepared by anyone else that would be available?

That’s good, let us hope that he does at least keep Media 100 going, even if it is not widely used. Can’t understand why it does not have a wide user base as it’s still a wonderful, versatile editing tool. Andrew, how do I post a few words on that Facebook thread, I can log in but can’t see a ‘post’ button?

Jack, I went back to check and stupid me, I had the wrong setting as you suggested, thank you, I know I checked before, could the setting revert on its own? All these aspects and codecs, there is always a lot to change between projects.

Yes Bob, the main disadvantage with only archiving files is that on re import you don’t get all the audio tracks, only left and right. That way you can’t change the mix, it is just an archive of what you did originally.

Craig, I attended a day long presentation of the new PXW- FS7 this week. The options offered as far as codecs and PP settings is beyond belief with this camera, the menus went on forever! DOP’s have to be real artists these days it seems and deliberations and experiments with directors and art designers will have to be very detailed prior to shooting. A minefield for the unwary!

Bob, I’m wondering why you are so keen on archiving camera original media. Surely, that has been edited into a finished production? Why would you need to keep so much redundant media? I know that with me there is a huge amount of media in my original shoot that I’ll never either use or need, it’s the final timeline that I want to archive. I do this by exporting in the ProRes HQ 422 codec then putting the files on two separate drives, rather as do you. Yes, LTO tape seems the safer way to go but not for a small producer like me. I appreciate that everyone has their own individual requirements, depending on the nature of their business, and clearly you have our reasons for what you do.

Doug Jensen of Vortex Media does great DVD’s on the EX cameras amongst others so may well do one on this camera.
