Marcus, I’m quite happy with Mountain Lion, I’m doing all I need with my current set up. Still on the last of the MacPro ‘Towers’ too, as long as it keeps working!

The results are still very good, the codec still works with my workflow as I get into ProRes on import so the fact that this codec will soon be outdated doesn’t concern me one bit. There are some great new Sony cameras now appearing and if I were younger might well be tempted to change. The only real improvement I would want is a larger chip (sensor) size. I do find it difficult minimising the DOF, even with an ND in place and widest aperture. The mbps figure doesn’t concern me, you tell me if anyone can detect the difference between 35 and 50 mbps. If you use it properly the EX 1 is still a wonderful workhorse and brilliant for ‘on the go’ documentary filming.

June 30, 2015 at 9:29 am in reply to: Content Browser 2.0 vs 1.0, change in distribution policyMuch as I appreciate Sony’s updating I’m still working with the original Transfer app. that I got when I started with the EX 1 camera. I just use it for viewing, trimming and importing clips, it seems perfect for what I want. Can anyone tell me why I won’t be able to continue, I’m on OS Mountain Lion?

Dave, what improvements or new feature is on version 2.1.6 that isn’t on 2.1.5, other than compatibility with Yosemite?

Really great that more people might be encouraged to try what we all regard as the best video editing system there is. However, I have real problems with going to Yosemite because I’m using quite a few out dated bits of software (BitVice for one) and I’m sure I’d find that they won’t run with this new OS. Besides, everything works for me right now with Mountain Lion so I’m sticking. Great though if Boris continues to back Media 100 and the wonderful Floh Peters keeps an eye on it all, thanks a million Floh.

Bob, are you transferring the complete BPAV folder from the Sony file that was on the S X S card? I believe that the folder has to remain complete before the Sony software will handle it.

Boris certainly has acted in an odd manner regarding Media 100. He rescued it, praise be to him for that, developed it, then completely ignored it (and us).
If there is a buyer then they would be getting an absolutely first class product and may yet reinstate it in the market place. With more and more people editing video throughout the world there must be a place for such an intuitive, comprehensive system such as Media 100. They can’t all be wanting to use FCP and Premiere Pro surely? The problem is we’re all ‘preaching to the converted’, we’d like to know what the wider editing world thinks.

I find that BitVice gives me the best DVD quality, both from SD and HD material. The downscaling from HD is first class as well as being fast.
I use Toast Pro 11 to burn the DVD’s, also the same software to encode and burn BD’s, with a stand alone Lacie BD Burner / Player. The problem is going to be for me that BitVice probably won’t run with the new Mac OS Yosemite, I’ll have to wait and see. What do Encore users think of the encoding in that?

March 22, 2015 at 8:20 pm in reply to: Is this reason enough for M100 to make a comeback? As far as I’m concerned the main reason for a Media 100 comeback is that it is simply the best NLR editing software there is! As has been written many times, Media 100 does all that nearly every editor would require, it is the easiest to learn and operate BY FAR. I cannot understand why Boris is so shy of promoting it. It’s not as if he has a competitor in his stable, quite the contrary, Media 100 fits so well with his other products. The unpopularity of FCP X gave him the best possible excuse to remind the world of post production of the existence and good health of Media 100, I’m amazed he didn’t do it. We should (and do) ask him why?

Curious, it only appears on the white of the shirt. Could it be something to do with the colour white? Is it on other shots?
