Trash your preference files, this is ALWAYS the first thing to try, especially before reinstalling.

Like the person said before HDV because of its compression has about the same bandwidth needs and file size as DV douse. So I see no reason why you would need to edit a lower resolution. One big reason to offline is to save drive space when working with uncompressed video, and because HDV and DV will take up just about the same amount of hard drive space, so you will gain nothing there.

[spence77] “it’s capturing – and breaking the clips up everytime the camera is turned off which is weird.”

That normal FCP douse that by default unless you change it.

Export using current settings, this will export the video using the exact same settings as the timeline.

However for archiving I prefer to export back to tape.

If possible shoot to tape and disk at the same time. I would not charge a monthly fee I would just build the price of drives into your cost.

Trashing preferences has been covered on here a lot, there are actually a few programs that will do it for you, I do not remember the web links for them, but I am sure that a quick search of the forum will bring them up.

Quicktime is a Core component of the OS and is built in, what you moved to the trash was just the application interface, therefore the quicktime core component of OS is still a newer version.

Try an archive and install of the OS and then update only the OS and not the quicktime. However the current version of Quicktime is 7.1.6, it is possible that the update has fixed or changed any compatibility issues, so I would try updated to the latest first and see if that helps.
