Zooming around a timelapse movie
Hi guys and girls, this is my first post 🙂
Im a sPro till photographer and in the last few years been moving into the film sides of things. I have been producing timelapse movies using my Canon 5D DSLR camera which outputs still images of course and simple software like Nero etc and want to really move forward.Is it possible to produce a video at the resolution that the camera frames are produced at, which is 4368 x 2912, which means i can then zoom in to the parts i need and move around as if it is panning.
Does this make sense lol 🙂

4368X2912 is very large compared to f.e. HD video 1920X1080.
If all the pictures have this large format Premiere will have a hard job to render.
You can calculate the needed total dimension by taking the zoomed in area as 1920X1080 as a starting point for the calculation.Good luck

I was thinking more about using a slightly wide angle lens like the Canon 15mm fish eye on my full frame camera, and then being able to pan around smoothly and zooming in and out of the video at will as if i was moving it whilst sat there in real time.For example i made this a long time ago now

And would love to use the frames i still have to track the clouds or zoom and pan around in closer to the people. The frames i used are all batch cropped in photoshop from a wide lens on the full frame 5D.Many thanks for any help 🙂

I think you may want to use After Effects for something like this, more than Premiere. While premiere will work, AE is more suited to “Frame Stacks” like your time lapse photo output. You could just load your stack into a composition of 1080p and then frame the shot where you want it. AE supports cameras as well, so you could simply create a camera and move it, rather than the footage. Remember that you won’t be able to zoom further than the resolution of your final comp without losing data so 720P might even be better, allowing for more zoom (it would be a smaller fraction of the higher resolution).
