Zoomed Footage in Premiere Pro CS4 blurry
I’m having a problem zooming in on footage i recorded. I’m still new to the Premiere software. so what i did was capture the footage of a guy speaking in DV format. I wanted to zoom in about 150% but the resulting file is slightly blurry? even when i make a DVD the footage is blurry. don’t now how to fix it, or even if it possible. I’m making a standard DV project NTSC. I’m not sure what information you may need to help so just ask and I’ll do my best.

Any time to “blow up” an image, you are then looking at less pixels than you started with, so it’s going to look blurry/pixelated to some degree.
We all get spoiled watching the cop/spy shows on TV where they take the surveillance video and zoom waaaayyyyy in and run some filters on it and it then looks crystal clear. It just doesn’t work that way.
There is one trick that can help – if working in an SD project, use HD source video, right-click the clip on the timeline and make sure that “Scale to Frame” is NOT checked, and this will show the HD clip in full res on the SD timeline, and then you will have the extra pixels available to zoom in and maintain a clear image, this works for stills as well.

As Jeff states, the blurriness is a natural byproduct of magnifying an image beyond its natural resolution. Adobe does a pretty good job of removing jaggies, but the blurring is the consequence. You could try either the Sharpen or Unsharp Mask video effects to add some pseudo-edges.

The option of unchecking the scale to frame option made all difference in my project. I recorded a 1080 video of a person talking to camera, with the intention of editing at 720 and scaling it to make jump cuts and give it rhythm, very YouTuby, and this was the perfect solution. Thanx so much.

Do not scale DV footage up more then 110%.
