How does one zoom in on an image in 1.5?
I could not find instructions for this in the Help files nor the user manual. -

Use the fixed Motion Effect that all clips have as a default. The scale parameter and position parameters will help you when you use Keyframes.

When I use the Fixed Effects, Motion, scale function all that happens is that the image in the timeline gets smaller, while the background is black. How do I replace the background black with either another image or color?

Move the picure to the next higher track so you can put a background behind it on the lower track.
