i’m not seeing much difference here, but any thoughts on which is “better”? i’m mixing the HDV footage on the timeline with XDCam footage, and have seen how sluggy a project can be with HDV stuff in there, so am also wondering if i should capture the HDV with a different codec. it won’t let me do it as DVCPro HD nor XDCam, so do you all just leave it as HDV and go from there?

FW and FW Basic refer to the FW’s ability to control the camera or deck. The “better” one is whichever one works. Usually they both work fine.

Capturing to other codecs is what many HDV shooters do, but you need some kind of capture card to do the conversion. Firewire just copies the data, it can’t change it.
