i have a High resolution AVI file, that only opened up as a video line without sound(says couldnot find sound info).

The clip plays on windows media player and didnt play on Divx player at 1st. The error was FourCC not found. Then i uploaded divx codecs to this computer and now it plays on divx player without any problems. BUT, now this avi file opens in vegas as a sound file and now cannot read the video part.

I gave a copy of the same exact AVI file a to friend who has sony vegas as well. He had no problems opening the avi file in his time line as 2 tracks(vid and sound)

What am i missing? what should i do?

    cheers,
    bobby

Install the same XVid/DivX codec your friend has.

Do a search here for XVid/DivX. There are methods mentioned many times. Bottom line: some get it to work, some don’t. I don’t use either.

Unfortunately my friend doesnot know how to check what codecs he has installed.

Any suggestions where to look on his PC to figure out his codecs…

    cheers,

The problem with DivX and XviD encoded movies is that they can be encoded with a wide array of sound codecs. Get YAAI, it will (perhaps) tell you what sound codec the movie is encoded with. Then go search for that codec.

Generally, editing highly compressed video such as DivX and XviD is not particularly fun.
