  • Xserve RAID 2,5 – good deal at this price?

Posted by Arnljot Bringedal on March 16, 2008 at 11:28 am

Used of course . I am able to buy it for 2,5 K US approx.

    Can anyone advice me?

I was thinking of buying it and at a later date replace the drives with higher capacity ones…..

My colleague wants me to do the purchase to do uncompressed HD editing and capture…..

Get yourself a SATA array like the ones from MaxxDigital, Sonnet and Dulce. Xserve RAID is overpriced for what it is. I would not even buy a used one, especially since Apple is no longer selling them.

Walter is correct. Look at the banner ad’s – right on this forum. There are lots of companies right here that are selling excellent drive arrays that will outperform the Apple XServe RAID.

    Hi arnljot, I 2nd (3rd?) Walter and Bob’s answer.

SATA RAID give you best bang for the buck (Euro even better deal).

We just introduced our brand new PRO RX, a super fast rackmount RAID protected 16 drive array (800MB/s RAID 0, 750MB/s RAID 5), this follows the heal of the very fast PRO DQ introduced last summer.

If you are in the market for a good price, please drop us a note at cow@dulcesystems.com and we will work out a good deal for you.
