XSAN Stornext, together better, but how?

Hi,

I have Stornext SAN system with redundant MDC’s and Windows clients, accessing a storage box via iSCSI currently.
I want to add some FCPs to the current system with additional storage boxes. For XSAN, I have to switch to FC. So I have two option;
1- add XSAN MDCs, add FC to some stornext clients, configure FCPs with XSAN to access the FC storage box, and also configure Win clients to access the same XSAN storage pool
2- add FC to stornext MDCs and some stornext clients, configure the FC storage via stornext and add XSAN to FCPs and connect them to Stornext storge pool via FC.

considering different license requirements, system requirements and configurations, I want to make sure that my solution would work with no headache (or just little), and cost should be reasobale. As I’m the fist one who tries to implement Stornext and XSAN together in my country, I need some suggestions from people who tried similar scenarios before.

Any help is appreciated.

Have you thought about trying out an iSCSI Initiator on your Mac systems?
If your Macs have two NICs, then it’s easy to maintain a separate Metadata network on one and have iSCSI running over the other.

I’m not sure what your video requirements are, but Final Cut Pro systems attached to properly configured storage over iSCSI can expect to see 2-3 streams of PRORES HQ 1080i.

Not sure what storage arrays you’re using either, but you’re welcome to try our free iSCSI initiator for the Mac, which you can download from this page:

Actually I’m waiting for the hardware then after setting up the XSAN portion, I’ll perform some tests to connect Macs to iSCSI via XSAN, but this not officially supported and I have no idea about what I can do if this wont work with the next XSAN/MacOSX/etc update. Maybe later with the possible upgrdae of iSCSI SAN, I can convert it to FC as well.
And I’m quite familiar with you initiator and I’m using this with some customers already.

I know this is a really late response to this thread, but why not just use your Xsan clients as clients of StorNext? Xsan is a fully support client on StorNext MDCs.
