I recently got myself a fancy new iMac. I’m using Premiere Pro CS3 on both OSX and on Windows XP using Bootcamp.

I’m finding that the raw video captured from my camera looks a lot better on the Windows side than it does the Mac side. The MOV files straight from the camera have a lot of visual noise whereas the AVI files captured in Windows are pretty clear.

I was going to upload one of each for comparison, but apparently I’m being moderated.

Any thoughts? Do I need a better Quicktime codec on the Mac side? Should I not capture to MOV files?

    Thank you.

You dont say what kind of camera you have but footage captured via firewire is simply data transfer with no changes made during capture. I would update your video card drivers on the MAC side as it is likely just a display issue.

Your screen brightess may be much higher on the Mac revealing noise you didn’t see on the windows side.

If you are able to bring in all the footage (mac captured and pc captured) and put them into a Premiere Pro edit timeline I’m sure they will look the same. MOV files watched through Quicktime can look crappy. Its a QT setting that watched DV video with Draft settings by default. PC players like Windows Media Player don’t have this setting, so the videos from the PC on a PC would look fantastic in comparison. But when you use the clips to edit in PPro they should both look the same.
