  • XML work flow using Master Time Line after grading instead of XML time line.

    Hello
We have been experimenting here with a different approach to XML Round Trip work flow. Goes something like this…..Import XML 40 minute show, XML brings in Clips and time line with effects (Limited) grade show. After grade click on master time line, render out Master time line with no handles. Editor
re-links to all clips in new folder. Benefit: Editor does not have to put back any missing effects or moves and can manipulate show more if he wants because no clips have baked effects. Saves tons of time on Editor’s end.
Disadvantages for Colorist: Cannot unlink any clips from same source clips as only one color correction re-links to Master time line. Also render time is increased because all clips in their entire length are rendered out. The master clips have been shortened on ingest so this is not a huge problem.
QUESTION??? Has anyone else toyed with this approach and if so has anyone
found a way to have have more than one color correction on the same master clip at different spots link to the master time line?? For clips that need more than one color correction we have been marking and doing multiple passes but this causes the Editor to physically put these clips in. Still working on this but any input would be helpful.

100 different approaches and 100 different opinions.
    here is mine :
Dont round trip…make decisions, stick with em…do editing as it should be and give the final product to the colorist who finishes.

The show is finished and they have made the final decision……this is not about that. Its about making an easier work flow for everyone involved. Its about saving time and trying to help the Editor out with limitations in Resolve for Round Trip. I have always been open to trying other possibilities and stretching the limits on software and was just looking for anyone else who had entertained this work flow…..
