XLR adapter

DVX100BMic: Azden SGM-2X XLR 2 barrel shotgun
I have an XLR microphone and I attach it to the camera with an adapter. It captured great sound at first and then it simply stopped working; I changed the batteries with no luck. I have already captured sound so I know I had the settings correct.
The only thing that may be a problem is that the part of the adapter where I have attached the microphone is not flush; it locks in, but there is a little gap where it should be flush. I can’t remember if it was flush before or if it managed to capture sound in this condition too. Does it sound as if I need a new adapter and if so, what do you recommend?

I’d check the mic with another camera- if it works fine then the camera needs repair. If it doesn’t the mic needs repair.
