We’re thinking of purchasing a couple of HD cameras as we do a lot of chroma keying and want the 4:2:2 color space.

We were wanting to find out if it’s possible to shoot in HD on the XL H1 and output DVPro50 in 4:2:2.

    Anyone?

The camera records HDV in 4:2:0 color space to tape, but outputs uncompressed HD in 4:2:2 through the HD-SDI connector (video only, no embedded audio). You could record to DVCPro HD as you shoot through the HD-SDI port. Once recorded to tape, you may get uncompressed HD 4:2:2 out the HD-SDI prot, but the compressed HDV (in 4:2:0) will be your weakest link. I have never shot green screen with the XL-H1 and others may have experience with how well this might work.
