Okay, this may seem a little lame, but I’m specing a multi-camera system for a local church. So, the finances are limited. We plan to install HD-SDI cabling through the facility regardless. I know I can use the HD-SDI directly out of the XL H1 or the XH G1, but the price point of the XH A1 is so much lower that it’s worth asking this question.

What is the signal that is output via the component out of the XH A1? Is it the same as the G1 or H1 in terms of resolution? Is it live from the camera head so that I could incorporate it into a multi-camera set?

I assume I can use an AJA analog to digital conversion box to upconvert the signal to HD-SDI.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    – In a LIVE situation, the Component output bypasses the HDV compression going to tape. It is an uncompressed analog Component Y(Green) Pb/Cb(Blue) Pr/Cr(Red) 4:2:2 output. Perfectly suitable for incorporation into a multi-camera production, providing that you have a switcher with Component inputs.

Thank you for the confirmation. Canon’s documentation is very vague on this point. Even their phone support wasn’t sure.
