XDCAM Transfer or Browser working in Lion?
Posted by Neal Gillis on July 20, 2011 at 5:56 pmI know there’s been chatter here that Transfer likely won’t ever work in Lion. Has anyone tried XDCAM Browser, though? If not, has there been any chatter of update timeline?

July 20, 2011 at 7:54 pmThe present version of XDCAM Transfer is at the end of its development and will not be updated. XDCAM Browser v.1.2 is the latest version, combining XDCAM Clip Browser and XDCAM Transfer. It will work in Lion. I don’t know if XDCAM Transfer will work in Lion because I don’t have Lion. If I were you I’d just assume it doesn’t and get used to using XDCAM Clip Browser just in case.

July 20, 2011 at 8:39 pmDon, is there any reason why I shouldn’t stick with the existing version of EX Transfer as I don’t need Lion. I only use Transfer to access my BPAV folders and import sections of selected clips. Does the job, why change? Wht’s the advantage of all these updates?

No reason at all that I can see. As XDCAM Browser matures there will be more features from the other Sony programs ported over to it. I have no need at the moment for using XDCAM Browser, although I have it.
Sony seems to have made changes to the USA XDCAM EX micro site so it’s a bit easier now to find and download XDCAM related software.

July 21, 2011 at 5:51 pmI actually like XDCam Transfer now that it is working properly. It’s quick, elegant, easy to use and gets the job I need done without much fanfare. I tried Browser and it was very difficult to figure out just from poking around and appears to try to do too much. Overkill. Why is that an improvement?? I’m sticking with Transfer for as long as possible.

July 22, 2011 at 3:10 pmNeither Browser or Transfer appear to work in Lion at the moment, it would be great if Sony could give a definite timescale for Lion support in XDCam Browser, the beta programme for Lion has been running for some time so I hope Sony would be prepared for this.

July 22, 2011 at 3:18 pmI received these tweets from a XDCAM Product Specialist for Sony Europe two days ago:

So maybe we’ll see a new Browser sooner than later, which oughta work with Lion.

August 6, 2011 at 8:42 amI’m using Transfer with Lion – it’s quite glitchy and comes up with some long weird error message each time it opens a folder – but I’m getting my clips transferred reliably and fairly efficiently.
I’ve taught you all I know, and still you know nothing.
