Slightly off-topic for this forum, but it should be close:

Shooting on XDCam discs and using PDW-U1 disc drive to transfer using XDCAM Transfer software v. 2.12.0. When I originally set this up, I could view clip thumbnails in Transfer’s “View-Images” option. Upgraded OS, had issues, backed down to OS 10.6.2 to make all software happy. Unfortunately, Transfer only has gray boxes in the “Images” view option instead of actually showing me the thumbnail. If I click on a box – or select a clip in the “List” view option, I can still see the clip in the edit window and select subclips for import, but that’s much less efficient than actually seeing multiple thumbnails at a time.

I’ve trashed preferences, reinstalled Transfer, made verbal and physical threats, all to no avail. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Did you upgrade quicktime at the same time. Mauybe you lost a codec in the process.

Sounds like your thumbnail / poster frame cache may have corrupted or lost its references or something. You could try reinserting the original disk and then re-fetching the clip data (File menu). Or maybe more convenient would be just to save new poster frames for each clip by selecting each clip in turn and pressing “Control P” (Clip menu > Set Poster Frame).

    Hope it helps

Ps Whilst you’re about it, you might want to try the update to XDCAM Transfer 2.13.0, maybe that will chase those thumbnails back out of wherever they are hiding.

Thanks for the suggestions – I did them all, as well as updating Transfer to 2.13; changing cache size & location, reimported the disc; still get gray boxes. Any other ideas?

    [Mark Frazier] “Any other ideas?”

Sure. Trash the XDCAM Transfer preference file.

    The path is: Macintosh HD>Users>yourname>Library>Preferences>com.sony.bprl.xdcamtransfer.plist.

Trash that file and restart XDCAM Transfer. The program will create a new preference file on startup. See if that solves it.

Well, this one stumped the kids at Sony as well. After trashing the prefs in FCP (they seemed to think that might help – not sure it did anything) I bumped up my OS to 10.6.3. That seems to have brought the Transfer software back to life, and I’ve noticed no other software issues – yet.

    Thanks for the assistance!
