xdcam pro res problem
Hi, please can i get help it is very important and any help is greatly appreciated.
thank you.I have footage from an xdcam.
I need to get it into final cut pro.
the problem i have is that all i have is the files that were within the CLPR folder, and not the other folders from the card. within that folder are the footage, but final cut wont recognise it because its not prores.
i believe the problem i have is that there is a lack of meta date because when i try to log and transfer the footage a message comes up saying “warning day 1 contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. please choose a folder whose directory structure mates supported media.”
i believe this is because it is looking for the entire card layout and is unable to find this.
the footage playes through vlc player. it is there. i just need to find a way to get it into final cut.
please help..

So there are a couple of ways to get it into FCP, and I take it you’re talking about FCP 7. One you can get the Calibrated software for reading mpg4 files from https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/products.asp and another is you can get XDCam Browser, Transfer, and Drivers at https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcamex-downloads-SxSDrivers.shtml

yeah i’ve been looking into this problem all night over forums and it seems to be that i only have the .mp4, .smi, .ppn, .xmpl, and .bim for the shot because the guy DITing on set didn’t take the rest of the files from the card. ive nevr had this problem before but people are saying its called an “orphaned mp4” is that right?
and i have to somehow recreate the other meta data which i believe is the BPAV files in order to get it into final cut pro 7?
am i right in understanding that?

I had this happen to me once after I instructed a cameraman on how to ingest XDCam footage by using XDCam Browser. Instead he moved only the mpg4 files over. It really screwed things up for me. Calibrated software was the only solution. I take it you have the XDCam drivers in place?
So a thought is to create an empty, new BPAV folder and copy the Mpg4 files into the same CLPPR folder in the right place and see if you can use XDCam Transfer to get them over into FCP. Make copies of the Mpg4 files though, just in case.
So XDCam is made to work through BPAV folders and the entire BPAV folder must be moved properly, and I use XDCam Browser for that, into its own exclusive folder, taking care not to overwrite the BPAV folder that might be there from another card.
This same kind of problem raises its ugly head on these posts quite often, cameramen not familiar with how to ingest and save footage properly. Your footage is still there, but Calibrated may be the only solution for you. You can download it for free but it has a watermark until you purchase it. Good to test it first.
