XDCAM .mov import/viewing
I’ve searched for some answers, I just can’t find one exact to my problem so I’m sorry if this is a repeat.
A friend of mine gave me a bunch of XDCAM EX footage on a hard drive already in .mov format. I copied it to my computer (mac osx 10.6.5) and it does not play in my normal quicktime so I researched and found I needed to download software from Sony to be able to view this footage as well as import into Final Cut Pro.
I’ve tried the browser download and transfer download from Sony’s site and can’t get any to work. Neither will let me select my clips. If I import I just get a blank screen in FCP with audio.
I’ve tried import>XDCAM as well as export>XDCAM to try and change format and no luck.
I am running FCP 5.1.4 so it looks like the Log and Transfer downloads on Sony’s site are not compatible with my version. If that’s the problem then I will upgrade my FCP. (I also have Premier Pro CS4 to use as well, but same problems)
Obviously I’m very new to this format so any detailed help or specific instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I’m not sure if your problem is an old version of QuickTime or ver. 5 of FCP. I can’t remember back that far. Version 5 was released six plus years ago. That’s ancient history now.

You need at least FCP 6.0.2 for XDCAM EX support Chris.

As an aside, Premiere Pro CS4 natively supports XDCAM EX media, the only thing you might need for your mac is Sony SxS drivers for your mac. Good luck.
