May 30, 2012 at 4:57 pmWell I’ve just received a small ProRes file and it it unreadable, actually it recognizes the sound but that’s it. I still have Vegas 10 installed and not it or version 11 can read it.
It plays fine in the fully updated QT player. According to it the file is in : Apple ProRes 422 HQ.
So others can play the Prores file but not me, am I missing a codec or something?

May 30, 2012 at 5:22 pmI wonder if it’s a 32-bit vs 64-bit thing? Did you try it with the 32-bit version of Vegas Pro?

May 30, 2012 at 5:31 pmIf it’s under 2 gigs in size, post it to Dropbox (or similar site) and let us try it.

May 30, 2012 at 7:23 pmI just tried it in Pro 10 32 and 64 bit and audio only here too 🙁
I am running the latest version of QuickTime and I seem to recall someone suggesting that it be dropped back to an earlier version but I can’t remember which one worked for them.FYI, I tried some older ProRes files I have (same file specs as yours) and they played just fine so I don’t know what else to suggest.

Mike, are your older files 60.0 fps? I would have expected 59.94 or 29.97. I wonder if the odd rame rate is the problem.

May 30, 2012 at 7:57 pmI guess we’ll have to go the DnxHd route, or, if all fails, Quicktime Animation
Thanks!

John, as I recall, they were 23.98 (the guy shot them with a Red camera).
I’m at home now and the test file doesn’t work here either. -

May 30, 2012 at 10:42 pmI am curious.. are you using an external drive for the prores file?
I have noticed that (sometimes) Vegas was not able to playback prores files if they are on an external drive but would play them if they came from an internal drive. Don’t know why but if it is coming from an external try moving it onto an internal drive.. If not you may have to update to the latest quicktime and maybe even reload vegas. But it will work..
