  • XDCAM EX long GOP to Pro Res, crashing!!

I have a one hour show that is shot in XDCAM EX and as an experiment, i edited it staying in the XDCAM long GOP format. Previously on other XDCAM EX programs i’d put everything on a Pro Res timeline, but thought this might save some render time.

All went well, but in the lat 5 to 7 minutes of the show, i started having multiple crashes for no apparent reason. I then copied everything and put it on a Pro Res timeline and now I can’t get it to render without crashing my machine (Mac pro, dual quad core, Kona 3 card, 10 gigs RAM). I reinstalled FCP using FCS remove and still having the same problem.

    Any ideas?

    thx…jw

COrrupt media? Try trashing your render files and try again.

By the way, you don’t have to put everything in a ProRes timeline, you can simply render to ProRes in XDCam timelines by choosing that option in the render control tab of the sequence settings. Bring up the sequence settings by hitting command-zero.

Also, how’s your RAM configured, 10Gigs is not a very round number.

    I second Jeremy.
Edit in an EX-1 sequence. FC manages without problems those “no so long” GOPs (8f).
And as Jeremy suggest set the rendering in Proress.

    Mac OX 10.5.2-FC 6.02-QT 7.4.1
    G5 2x2Gh 4GbRAM-BlackMagic Extreme
    PMBP 17″Core2Duo 4GbRAM-AJA ioHD
    JVC DTV-17″
    SONY EX-1 . SONY PD170
..and always a big mess on top of the table.
