I am trying to work with some EX-1 108024p footage that has been converted to quicktime XDCAM EX codec using the transfer tool for FCP. Now I am getting this display error that quicktime doesn’t exhibit.

Here is what it looks like in AE:

It also looks the same in media encoder.

Any ideas on why Adobe can’t handle this footage? This problem is new to CS5, since this has been a workflow I’ve used in the past with CS4 and below.

Try using XDCAM Transfer to convert the footage. You will have problems using other methods.

Is this AE CS5 on a system with FCP installed? It looks like it may be having issues accessing the codec in Quicktime (what FCP installs).

Can you play the EX .mov file in Quicktime?

AE CS5, FCP, Smoke on Mac. AJA Kona3 and nvidia quadro 4800.

I did imported these clips using the XDCAM HD transfer app.

I’ll start searching for Kona conflicts or nvidia conflicts.

I’m figuring that you brought the clips into FCP by using XDCAM Transfer directly. Have you tried importing them with XDCAM Clip Browser, and then importing the clips from Clip Browser to XDCAM transfer? It might be worth a shot.

Yeah I tried both methods, but still no luck. There’s no difference in how the clips are encoded between the two, just a script in the program that tosses the files into your project after rewrapping the mp4 into mov. For this issue I’m having, I’m betting on either something wrong with Adobe’s playback engine or a configuration error with the Kona3 or the Nvidia 4800 since this is isolated to this machine. Workaround to prores for now, but still troubleshooting.
