XDCAM EX Clip Brower 2.6 and FCP workflow
Question… I am using the newest version of clip browser and I would like to copy my my files off my EX3 and edit in FCP7… Here is the workflow I would like to have… I would like to first bring in the footage RAW onto my Netgear ReadyNAS through Clip Brower… they I will used XDCAM HD Transfer to log and capture… That seems pretty straight forward… That gives me a back up of the RAW footage… Now, I could simplet copy the the BPAV from the SxS card onto my ReadyNAS, although I heard that wasn’t a good idea… What I would like to do is split up the clips as I bring them in RAW onto the ReadyNAs… IE, i have some footaget that is specific to certain subjects… Is that possible? Can I take some clips and save them RAW on my ReadyNAS, and save others in another section of the ReadyNAS? I thought you could… If so, can anyone tell me how to do it?

Hi Brian,
What is critic is don’t to touch the file structure inside the BPAV folders if you want to be able to use the Transfer tool.
The advantage of the Clip Browser is the Error Control that makes when copying files.
You can use it also to re-wrap orphan MP4 files in a new BPAV folder.
It seems that with the new Calibrated Software you can work directly with the MP4 files in FC.
There are many ways to work with the EX-1 files. You must see which workflow is better for you.
I use very little the Clip Browser (for re-wrapping) and the Transfer tool I use it as stand alone.
There is people with completely different workflows.
If you can know more about The Clip Browser, Graig Seeman, in the SONY XDCAM forum, knows everything.

Thanks for your response… You noted that the Clip Browser is used to rewrap orphan MP4s into new BPAV folders… That is what I want to do… Sometimes I shoot for multiple clients on the same card… I would like to save the raw footage clips (i.e. BPAV folder) by client… So, that means that need to break up and “rewrap” some clips for one client and some for another…. I was pretty sure you can do that, however, I can’t seem to figure it out… I may simply not have Clip Brower set up correctly… For instance, I read that there is the top window and the bottom window… I only have to top window… Does anyone know if there is a manual for 2.6? I haven’t be able to find one..

Thanks for the response… However, I am still not able to split up a BPAV folder and I still not sure if that is possible… So, one quick question… Have you been able to successfully split up a BPAV folder? Meaning, you have the original BPAV folder that had 10 clips in it… You saved half of the folder (in raw format) to one drive and the other half (in raw format) to another drive? I want to save my original raw BPAV files by client… I can’t seem to get it to work… I can import the files (i.e. make them .mov files) and save them by client… But that is not what I want… I want to save the original footage BPAV clip files…
If this is possible, I need you to walk me through it like I was a 3 year old…. Here is what i did… I open the clip browser.. I double click on the 8gig card… The clips came up…. I went into the edit tab and added a new folder…. I drag the clips from the 8gig card to the new folder… It transferred it over and converted it to an MXP file, which i am not sure I want to do… When I go into final cut, I can see the file in the new folder… Nor can I see or access the file in XDCAM Tranfer…. So, I am not sure what putting it in the new folder is going to do for me…. Any help would be helpful..
