I am about to capture progressive 16:9 footage from a XDCAM EX into FCP 6.0 – I have installed the Sony clip browser & wish to know what settings I should have to capture with and if it’s ok just to export into a DV AVI and import to FCP that way or if there is a better way. I am in working with PAL.

    Hi Beberly,
The SONY Clip Browser lets you preview and few other things, but it doesn’t let you download the clips.
What you need is the SONY Transfer Tool.
When you will install it you will see that is very easy to use.
Just select the clips and click “Import”.
The clips will be downloaded as .mov files.
    Ready to edit.
    Cheers,

[Beverley Callow] “o capture with and if it’s ok just to export into a DV AVI “
That sounds very bad. If you want to survive in the world of FC, avoid the AVIs.

    Thanks Amador!

The only prob is fcp 6.0.0 doesn’t allow the transfer tool to be installed? I don’t have the camera here but have some test clips on my computer so what do you mean doesn’t let you download the clips. ?

    hi Beberley,
The Clip Browser let you preview and download the files as .MP4.
    These files are no editable.
The .MP4 have to be re-wrapped as .mov to edit in a Mac or as MXF to work in PC.
And the Transfer Tool is the application to do this re-wrapping.

Why you say you can not install the Transfer Tool?
You don’t even need Final Cut to work with it.
The Transfer Tool is an stand alone application that includes a plugin for FC.
If you can not install the plugin, just open the Transfer Tool, import and drag the clips to FC.
In fact I never import from FC, I use the Transfer Tool as stand alone.
    Hope this helps,
    Cheers,
    rafael
