I am editing a project shot as XDCAM EX 1080P 24. As we all know these are MPEG2 compressed files. Anyways it looks fine when editing but now I am compressing the project to be a DVD and I am getting compression artifacts especially over interviews shot on a black background. I am using compressor to create the MPEG2 file using the 90min compression setting set by apple. Is there a way to get around this problem? I have tried making the timeline a prores timeline in hopes of clearing this up, but it did not resolve the problem. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

Are you setting “Frame Control ON” in Compresssor, and Best downscaling?

    Hi Elie,
Sorry i was in a hurry when I’ve answered your post.
If you want to get the best of your EXDCAM stuff, once you have your sequence ready to export:
    – Change the sequence codec to Prores or Prores HQ.
    – Set Render all YUV material in High Precision.
Export the movie and then import to Compressor.
Apply the DVD preset as you did it, with the frame Control ON and the Best Resizing.
depending of the length of the movie, you can increase the data rate to get a better compression.
