  XDCAM codec to SD for Offline and keeping TC

  Hi, this is my 1st post, so hopefully I am giving enough info here.

  I’m running a MBP 2.33 GHz and FCP 5. I have some XDCAM footage that I need to edit in a multiclip setting, but once imported, my laptop can only handle one clip at a time.

  I’m looking to down convert for an offline edit to an SD codec to edit in the multiclip setting, and then upconvert for the online. I also need to maintain the original timecode in the downconvert, both for sync and for the return to the online, but whenever I export the clips (which are long, about an hour each – it’s a live event), the timecode on the SD clips reverts to starting at 0:00:00;00.

  I’ve also never done an offline/online edit with HD footage and could I am sure there are links out there you could point me to that I am not finding to make sure my EDL works.
