xdcam browser export
I have the Sony PMW-EX1 camcorder, to transfer the material to computer, I use a program called XDCAM Browser 2.0. Original material is in HD format (HQ1080i, 16:9), and when the computer program exports it to DV-AVI format, then the “Aspect Ratio” offers only 4:3. Is this normal or how to get a widescreen format ?

When exporting to DV-AVI the default is 4:3 squeeze. This is actually the correct setting if you want to maintain the 16:9 aspect ratio. The video will only appear ‘squeezed’ when viewed on a 4:3 monitor.
If you want to use letterbox or edge crop, click on the ‘Details’ button in the TYPE area of the Export dialog, then select Squeeze, Crop or Letterbox under ‘Aspect Ratio.’

yes, 4:3 squeeze is basically widescreen BUT all players and editing programs treat this exported file as 4:3
