  • XD cam EX footage showing up blank but with sound on FCP

    Hi there!,

I recently cut together a rough cut of XD cam EX3 footage on my friends computer using FCP 6,
I then dumped the whole project file and capture scratch onto an external hard drive and hooked it up to my computer at home. I’m running studio 3 with final cut pro 7 and intend on editing from the external hard drive.
The problem is that when I attempt to play back the sequence I cut together or any of the footage all i’m getting is a white/blank viewer with sound only.
If I run the footage by going into the capture scratch folder directly and double clicking on a movie file it works perfectly using quicktime.
I’m under a fairly tight deadline with this work and i’m starting to get a bit freaked out and frustrated.
I’ve also downloaded transfer software from the Sony site but am not really sure what I should do with it.

    Help!!

ps. I’m not familiar with all the technical terms as i’m still a student

    Hi Rory,
You need at least FC 6.0.2.

In the canvas window, use the pull down on the far right and make sure that you have a check next to RGB instead of alpha.

You may also want to trash your preferences and see if that helps.

    Rafael-

You really need to start reading posts before responding.

    Hi there,
I’ve tried what you have suggested and we found that the image showed up red but will still go blank when played. We also realized that the XD cam transfer package that had been downloaded was an out of date one. I got the new one working but have no idea what to do next. I re-checked the RGB drop down and now when I put it on blue or green it shows up in black and white but when played goes blank again. I’m starting to panic.

Can you play the files with QT Player?

Do a google search for “trash preferences FCP7”

I trashed the prefs and now when I start FCP up it asks for me to chose my setup again. which would be the best option to check? this is the first time i’ve ever used this type of camera before. I’m assuming i would check one of the XD cam 1080p options? i’ve already tried checking each one to see if that is what the prob is but it seems to have no effect. Could it be that this problem occurs because i’m taking footage from FCP 6 over to FCP 7?
