XAVC 4K on 5400rpm HDD?
Greetings!
I’ll be setting up a media production lab at a university, and one option for storage we’re considering is buying students individual portable hard drives. They’ll most likely be shooting and editing XAVC-QFHD 4K at 60mbps from the Sony X70 on Adobe Premiere on new iMacs. I’m looking at portable 1TB Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 drives, and my question is, will a 5400rpm drive handle that? Or will a 7200rpm be necessary? They’ll be editing short documentaries, so no graphics intensive, multi-track stuff. We’d like to stay around $200/drive.One complicating factor is that G-Tech drives aren’t available here (in Hungary), so that greatly limits our options.
Thanks so much in advance for any advice you can offer!
