X-Rite i1Display Pro…
Posted by Eric Johnson on January 13, 2012 at 9:20 pmI tried to find this else where but could not… So I apologize in advance if this ends up repeating.
Is it possible to use the X-Rite i1Display to calibrate an HD-SDI monitor? If not will it create a LUT that could be used as a Display LUT in Resolve? Or even to be integrated into the BMD Pref Pane?
Thanks a lot guys.

January 13, 2012 at 10:30 pmYou can use that probe but you will need a software application to use it and calibrate the display and make the LUT. I use Lightspace with a X-Rite Hubble but I know that it works with the i1 too.

January 29, 2012 at 9:54 amThe i1 Display Pro does indeed work with LightSPace CMS – but you MUST have the OEM model.
This is a X-Rite limitation, and nothing to do with LightSpace.
I’m actually doing a bunch of calibrations in Istanbul at the moment using this probe – very good results.
Cheers,
Steve

February 4, 2012 at 11:09 amx-rite stated that there is nothing that they do that limits retail probe use with third party software, so , it is actually everything to do with LightSpace.

February 4, 2012 at 1:32 pmThat is NOT correct.
X-Rite do indeed limit the different probes. There is even a ‘standard’ OEM probe, as well as vendor specific OEM versions, as well as X-Rite’s own non-OEM version.
I have the documentation from X-Rite that states this, so you have been badly informed.
We have requested access to the non-OEM probes for LightSpace but have not yet been granted this. We may be, but we may not…
So to reiterate, this is TOTALLY an X-Rite limitation that they control and we can do nothing about without their assistance.

February 4, 2012 at 5:46 pmSteve, this is from Luminous Landscape:
“X-Rite Product Manager Steve Rankin posted the following on the ColorSync list Aug 19, 2011.As the product manager for our Display Solutions at X-Rite, let me try to clarify a few things regarding OEM and 3rd party developer support for our new i1D3 based colorimeters. There seems to be lot’s of confusion here. First and foremost, X-Rite absolutely does allow OEMs and 3rd party developers access to our i1Display Pro retail instruments. Karl Koch already mentioned it here on the ColorSync List that BasICColor will support our retail product and I now have permission from Eizo to announce that a soon to be released version of ColorNavigator software will also support our retail i1Display Pro device. In addition, while I cannot mention their names, I can tell you that there are more OEMs & developers currently working on integrating our channel device into their software solutions. So, for any other OEMs or third party developers that wish to also support our retail i1Display Pro device, please contact devsupport@xrite.com and ask for our “i1Display Pro License Request Form”. Second, regarding support of OEM versions of i1D3, this is not an X-Rite issue at all. Any software developer who wishes to support an OEM version of the i1D3 device must contact and obtain this ability from that OEM. I hope this clarifies things for all.”

February 4, 2012 at 5:57 pmIndeed – that says it all.
To quote: “X-Rite absolutely does allow OEMs and 3rd party developers access to our i1Display Pro retail instruments.”
They ALLOW access – but ONLY to other software developers they CHOOSE to allow access…
As I said, this is an X-Rite limitation and ONLY THEY can allow LightSpace access to non-OEM probes.
We have asked for access, but have not yet been allowed. I have no idea if they will allow us access or not.
So as I originally said – this is an X-Rite issue, and not one we can change without their assistance.

July 8, 2014 at 12:49 amI know this is an old thread, but has this been resolved yet?
I want to buy a license of LightSpace, but don’t want to have to purchase a new probe.
