How can I achieve a fake scribbling text effect, when my actor makes a writing motion in his hand. Think about the HP Hands commercials with Jay-Z and Shaun White. I’d like to have my actor/artist write a quick scribble in mid air, at a certain point in a song we’re creating a music video to.

Also, after he’s done writing, I’d like to make it look as if he crumples up the “paper” and throws it behind/away from him. The effect would fade out here.

I used the I-Pod commercial tutorial and animated the light position. It looked really friggan cool and I was able to make the strokes in 3d space and spin the camera around it.

The iPod light streak demo is here on the Cow. You will need Trapcode Particular to pull it off as illustrated but you can use other devices to leave trails.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
