Would shooting 3D on a RED Epic and a RED Scarlet work?

[Mike Glasz] “I would like to shoot 3D and have access to a RED Scarlet and a RED Epic. If I rented a 3D mirror rig and set the Scarlet to 4K, would shooting in 3D work? Would it screw up in post because they are not identical cameras?”

Scarlet and Epic have different-sized sensors. If you put the same lens on each, the field of view of each camera would be different. This would be an absolute nightmare for stereo.

Actually, the Epic and Scarlet have the same physical sensor size. There are cost optimizations in the quality of the Scarlet’s build and the specs of internal components that attribute to the cost reduction.

Frame size is 27.7mm (h) x 14.6mm (v) = 31.4 mm (d)

This is more suited for reduser.net as there are some RED engineers and 3d shooters who frequent the forums.

While the cameras are similar, down to the sensor being the same piece of hardware, the supporting processing boards are not. It’s a bit out of my wheelhouse but some of these optimizations may affect image quality to the point of it not being a suitable pair for 3D.
