Activity Forums Maxon Cinema 4D world/object coordinates system broken

It isn’t broken — it just doesn’t do what you want it to do, unfortunately. There is no direct way to display world axes for an object. The workaround is to put your object in a null that’s aligned to world axes and move the null rather than the object.

The world/object icon actually does work, however, with the x/y/z icons next to it. So for example, if you turn on world coords and disable x and z, dragging off the object in move mode will move the object in the world Y direction.

Kinda crazy, I know, but that’s how it is.

    Adam,
Thanks for such a thorough and helpful response! I primarily used 3DS Max and Maya which both have the ability to toggle between world and object coordinates on the fly. That capability is such an essential part of my workflow I just assumed the button was broken. I tried both of your suggestions and though awkward solutions, they worked.
    Thanks a lot
