FCP works natively with Quicktime files that can be as high quality as 10-bit uncompressed HD. So, just because a file is Quicktime it does not mean much. You need to right click on one the files and use “get info” to see what codec the files are.

It’s highly possible, if he logged his material properly, etc.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Question: the codec on the QT media he sent is DV/DVCPRO Intgeger (Big Endian) 720×480. Does this mean they are uncompressed? Same as if I were to redigitize the DV tapes?

To be completely accurate, they are compressed, because DV is a highly compressed tape format. But, no need to recapture at a higher resolution, as these files are exactly what’s off the tape just as you would capture using firewire.

excellent, thank you! I will try to get an EDL from the editor using FCP 6 and see if it opens and reconnects with media in 4.5…here’s hoping!

I answered you the first time you posted this thread. XLM Version 1 or 2 from the 6.0 timeline. Open that in FCP 4.5
