    Hello there:

    Here’s my deal:

I’m TRYING to load in footage shot 1081i HD at 23.98 in to Final Cut Pro using a Kona LH card. The two problems I’m having are the following:

    1. When setting my capture preferences, I can’t find an option to compress the footage to save disk.
    2. When trying to capture, it’s dropping frames like crazy. I’ve disabled all drop frame warnings, so I can load something, but the palyback is horrible.

    HELP!

What drives are you capturing too? What format of HD is your video? What capture preset are you trying to use?

For offline quality, try the DVCPRO HD codecs. Much less space required for that than uncompressed 10-bit.

I agree — DVCPRO HD should be totally fine. What kind of disk are you capturing to? Firewire 400 will be too slow. Firewire 800 is not recommended, but I’ve never experienced any trouble with it.

Capturing to an xRaid. The video was shot 1080i. Thanks for the input. I’ll give it a whirl!
