I have a project at 5120×2160 in 5K. I need to deliver a ProRes HQ at 1920×1080 for additional delivery. Should I run this out through compressor?

I’d normally nest the sequence into what I need…but I’m not sure I can do that. Maybe I could by using a compound clip?

I have to deliver the project in 5K as well…so I don’t want to just change sequence settings. What do you think it best idea?

Also, I’m planning on letterboxing to fill non-16:9 aspect. I’m guessing I’d drop the compound clip into a 1920×1080 sequence and then add the letterbox there?

    This is so easy.

If you need a 5K delivery, edit everything in 5K

When you are sone duplicate the sequence.

Change the sequence settings to 1920×1080, FCP X does the rest for you.

    Export a 1920x 1080 from that sequence and a 5K from the 5K sequence.

    It’s really that simple.

I would suggest the following (and I do it all the time)

    – IMport r3d files.
    – Create proxy media
    – set editing preferences to PROXY (low resolution, ETC
    – EDIT
    – When you are completely done, set the preferences to HIGH QUALITY MEDIA and HIGH PLAYBACK and FCP will read and render from the R3D so you will get the very best quality on render out.
