I have a spot to produce in which most of my footage is digitized off of a BetaSp at D1, 29.97, 3:1. The new footage shot today came in from a JVC GY HD700 shot in .mov mode at 1280×720 24fps. Since the majority of my footage is the stock SD stuff from the BetaSP then it makes the most sense to edit in a 30i timeline. However, when importing the HD stuff and telling Avid to resize the footage to match the project’s resolution the end result is incredibly jagged/jerky footage. I have transcoded the HD footage to SD using Squeeze, Compressor, Quicktime Pro, and Avid’s transcode utility but am an able to get a nice looking conversion. Can someone please advise?

I think you need V4 of Avid you can mix your res on the timeline in your mastering format. I think you can get a 30 day trial from Avid give it a go.
It works well, we mix SD25i 1080i50 720p25 without worries but I haven’t put 24p in the mix yet…Good Luck

Paul thanks for your response. Our local avid rep and I was discussing just this issue a few months ago with my local avid sales rep. This evening before leaving the edit suite I purchased and downloaded the latest media composer…4.05 I think. It’ll be ready to rock on the nitris dx tomorrows. Thanks again Paul.
